Currently owned by renowned flutist and educator Phyllis Louke, this Haynes silver piccolo was originally owned by Burnett Atkinson.

Burnett Atkinson studied with the legendary William Kincaid and performed alongside Julius Baker in the Chicago Symphony. He also performed with Kincaid in the Philadelphia Orchestra before pursuing a successful career in Los Angeles studio recording. He later settled in Santa Barbara, where he taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and performed with the Santa Barbara Symphony and Ventura Symphony.

Phyllis Louke acquired the instrument in the late 1990s and entrusted it to respected flute technician Bob Gilchrist for a professional overhaul. Although it has sat unused for approximately the past 20 years, the instrument is still in playable condition.

As with any instrument of this age, it is difficult to predict how much longer the pads will remain serviceable before another overhaul is required. The asking price reflects the likelihood of future overhaul.

This instrument represents not only a fine vintage Haynes piccolo, but also a unique connection to an important lineage of American flute performance and pedagogy.
